Summary
THE RESISTANCE OF A FROZEN GROUND INCREASES WHEN TEMPERATURE DECREASES. WITH CONVENTIONAL FLUIDS USING BRINE IT IS DIFFICULT TO OPERATE AT TEMPERATURES BELOW 243K (-30 DEG C). DIFFERENT ORGANIC LIQUIDS WERE THEREFORE TESTED AND SATISFACTORY RESULTS WERE OBTAINED WITH AROMATIC HYDROCARBON MIXTURES OF THE TERPENE SERIES. AS A RESULT OF THE TEST A DISTILLATION BY-PRODUCT OF LEMON RIND WAS SELECTED. THIS LIQUID SOLIDIFIES AT ABOUT 173K (-100 DEG C). THE THERMAL AND HYDRAULIC PROPERTIES OF THIS PRODUCT ARE DESCRIBED.
