Summary
Fruits of Fortune mandarin (Citrus reticulata) were harvested at random from trees growing in a commercial orchard at Sagunto, Spain. Changes in carbohydrate content and metabolism in flavedo tissue were evaluated and the potential role of carbohydrates in the tolerance of citrus fruit to chilling injury was determined. It is concluded that carbohydrate changes in the flavedo of mature Fortune mandarins appear not to be related to the chilling tolerance of fruits during cold storage.
