Carbon dioxide as a refrigerant for vehicle air-conditioning with application to bus air conditioning.

Summary

A refrigeration cycle using carbon dioxide as refrigerant was designed with application to bus air conditioning. A laboratory prototype unit was built and tested. The prototype is described and the results of the measurements are presented. The laboratory experiments focused on effective cooling capacity and COP, and encompassed a variety of interior air temperatures and ambient air temperatures. The measured data are displayed and discussed. Over a wide operating range the COP is as good as, or slightly better than, that of standard vehicle air-conditioning systems with CFC or HFC refrigerants.
