THE AUTHOR REVIEWS THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND THE PERFORMANCES OF THE MAIN SUBSTITUTES FOR R11, USED AS FOAMING AGENT FOR RIGID POLYURETHANE AND POLYISOCYANURATE FOAMS, AS WELL AS THE PERFORMANCES OF THE MAIN SUBSTITUTES FOR R12 FOR EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE FOAM. R123 AND R141B, SUBSTITUTES FOR R11, R142B AND R124, SUBSTITUTES FOR R12, ARE NOT COMPLETELY SATISFACTORY, BUT THEIR UTILIZATION CONSTITUTES THE BEST SOLUTION, IN THE LIGHT OF THE CONSTRAINTS RELATED TO ENVIRONMENTAL ACCEPTABILITY, TOXICITY, FLAMMABILITY AND PERFORMANCE.
