Summary

GREAT EFFORTS ARE BEING MADE WORLDWIDE TO SUBSTITUTE R11 AND R12 FUEL GASES IN THE PRODUCTION OF PUR RIGID FOAMS. THE USE OF HCFCS IS ALSO UNDER DISCUSSION, SINCE CO2 AS A FUEL GAS, COMPARED WITH NOW COMMON PRODUCTS, YIELDS MUCH HIGHER THERMAL CONDUCTIVITIES IN FOAM MATERIALS. THEORETICAL CALCULATIONS OF PUR RIGID FOAMS BASED ON ALTERNATIVE FUEL GASES SUCH AS R123, R141B YIELD SUCH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITIES WHICH CONFORM CLOSELY TO TODAY'S COMMON R11-EXPANDED FOAMS.
