Summary

The author discusses the possibility of converting R12 centrifugal refrigerating plants to R134a. He presents a comparison of the thermodynamic characteristics of the two refrigerants, then he investigates the consequences of the substitution (compression ratio, decrease in temperature difference in exchangers when the same external temperature conditions are to be maintained, lubrication etc). He also suggests changes to be introduced to the installation in order to maintain the same temperatures. J.R.
