Summary

Currently, the constant temperature and humidity air conditioner usually takes R410A as the refrigerant. However, R410A has been scheduled to be phased out in future due to its large global warming potential (GWP) value. R1243zf (3,3,3-trifluoropropene) is one of the available new refrigerants for its favourable thermodynamic and transport properties, as well as the low climate change effect. R1243zf is flammable, and it has not been widely considered as a commercially viable single-component refrigerant. In this paper, R1243zf/R134a blend is proposed to be the low GWP refrigerant for an air conditioner. The mathematical simulation model of a constant temperature and humidity air conditioner was newly built, and then the theoretical refrigerating cycle and suitable refrigerant charge was estimated. It is found that the required refrigerant charge of R1243zf/R134a (0.5/0.5) is smaller (approximately 18% in reduction) than that of R410A, besides the coefficients of performance are elevated in range of 3.93% to 10.77%.
