Summary

The superconducting properties of YBCO depend strongly on the oxygen content, whereas the transition temperature remains relatively constant for oxygen content between 6.8 and 7.0 (the "plateau" effect). This effect has attracted considerable attention. The authors introduce a microscopic theory of this phenomenon.
