Chemical-physical aspects in refrigeration with isobutane.

Summary

For industrial application of hydrocarbons, Embraco-Aspera performs series of activities on stability and reactivity of the systems. The authors' studies deal with isobutane, a natural gas used in the domestic refrigeration. "Sealed tube" tests have been conducted to evaluate the gas reactivity with all kinds of materials. Moreover, bomb tests have been done to verify isobutane solvent capacity towards other materials used in production processes. Basic study on isobutane/oil foaming has been conducted. Isobutane residual in oil, after calorimeter tests, and flammability behaviour of isobutane/oil system have been determined. Having performed above mentionned activities, the authors can conclude that the use of isobutane in refrigeration assures stability as in old R12 based systems and better than R134a.
