CHILLED DISTRIBUTION AND THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE ARTICLE REVIEWS THE REVISIONS TO THE 1970 FOOD HYGIENE REGULATIONS AND LISTS THOSE PRODUCTS WHICH MUST BE KEPT BELOW 278 K (5 DEG C) AND THOSE WHICH MUST BE KEPT BELOW 281 K (8 DEG C). IT IS SUGGESTED THAT MILK WILL EVENTUALLY BE INCLUDED IN THE 278 K MAXIMUM LIST, ALTHOUGH NOT SPECIFICALLY COVERED BY THE NEW PROPOSALS. MANY RETAILERS WILL HAVE TO REVIEW CHILLED DISPLAY FACILITIES, AND IT IS CONSIDERED DOUBTFUL IF MANUFACTURERS CAN MEET THE DEMAND FOR NEW EQUIPMENT WHICH WILL HAVE TO BE INSTALLED. THE REGULATIONS ARE MEANT TO APPLY TO MILK FLOATS BUT SOME RELAXATION IS PROPOSED FOR VEHICLES UNDER 7.5 TONNES USED FOR LOCAL DELIVERIES. G.R.S.
