Summary

THIS ARTICLE REPORTS THE CURRENT POSITION REGARDING POTENTIAL DESTRUCTION OF THE STRATOSPHERIC OZONE LAYER BY REFRIGERANTS 11 AND 12. THE UNEP REVIEW HAS ENDORSED THE EEC STAND ON THIS SUBJECT WHICH, AS THE BASIC HYPOTHESIS IS STILL NOT PROVEN, TAKES THE PRECAUTION OF LIMITING PRODUCTION OF R11 AND R12 TO CURRENT LEVELS AND PRODUCING CODES OF PRACTICE AIMED AT MINIMISING RELEASE OF THESE REFRIGERANTS TO THE ATMOSPHERE.
