Summary
This article briefly describes the long, chequered history of CO2 as a refrigerant. Thanks to its environmentally friendly nature, CO2 is now encountering renewed interest. Certain properties of CO2 are presented, including its low critical point and high triple point. After having provided an overview of modes of use, the article focuses on cycles that can be employed with CO2.
