CO2 refrigeration systems in automobile air-conditioning.

Author(s) : WERTENBACH J., MAUE J., VOLZ W.

Summary

Substitution of conventional refrigerants with CO2 reduces the load on heat-absorbing gases in our atmosphere by providing an environmentally friendly alternative. Because the amount of engine power devoted to air conditioning systems is limited, carbon dioxide makes an attractive substitute for HFC refrigerants in vehicle applications. In this paper, results from the European "RACE" project are presented and discussed. The theory, results of the computer simulation, test results, and component development are discussed, as well as the difficulty in adapting this technology to vehicle applications.
