CO2 two-phase thermosiphon as heat source system for heat pumps.

Summary

A two-phase thermosiphon system has been investigated both experimentally as well as theoretically. The experimental analysis of the overall system consisting of heat pump, probe head, and thermosiphon confirms that the proposed system is a reliable and highly efficient as well as environmentally friendly alternative to common ground-coupled systems, because in case of leakage no harmful effects can be expected. Various design and operational parameters have been analyzed, e.g. probe head geometries, optimum number of parallel earth probes, probe length, etc.
