Summary
After reviewing the operating principle of absorption and of systems using ammonia-water and water-lithium bromide, a comparison with the vapour compression system is made: energy sources, initial and running costs, refrigerants. The current performances of double-and triple-effect absorption machines are studied, and the prospects of research and development are examined. J.L.
