Commercial refrigeration with ammonia and CO2 as working fluids.

Author(s) : EGGEN G., AFLEKT K.

Summary

A number of combinations are possible, and the following alternatives are examined in detail: ammonia as primary refrigerant, CO2 as secondary refrigerant; CO2 as low temperature working fluid at a cascade refrigerating plant; commercial refrigeration with CO2 as the only refrigerant. The development of CO2 and NH3 equipment has started with laboratory measurements and several commercial ammonia refrigeration plants have been built with CO2 as a volatile heat transfer fluid. The paper presents some test results from the laboratory, and different combinations of ammonia and CO2 are discussed.
