Compact vapour recompression heat pump enhances direct-fired absorption cycle.

Author(s) : MECKLER M.

Summary

The paper introduces a compact absorbent concentrator heat pump (ACHP) unit, that can either be retrofitted into or constructed as part of an absorption chiller. The ACHP can be powered by an electric motor in tandem with an energy-recovery impulse turbine, and utilizes state-of-the-art heat transfer capability. The ACHP operates essentially as a heat pump. It increases the volume of the refrigerant water and further concentrates the absorbent, increasing the overall system COP by approximately 14%.
