Summary

In this work, a comparative theoretical-experimental study of a hermetic piston compressor working with propane and R-407C is presented. Based on a semi-empirical model, the differences in the compressor efficiency and volumetric efficiency observed in the experiments were analyzed in terms of parameters with influence on these differences such as electrical and mechanical losses, heat transfer between the inlet and the outlet of the compressor, leaks, pressure losses in the cylinder valves and possible phase change of the refrigerant inside the cylinder. Even though there is not much information about the last effect (phase change inside the cylinder) in literature, it could, eventually, represent a considerable loss.
