THREE DIFFERENT DESIGN OPTIONS FOR CLOSED-CIRCUIT EVAPORATIVE COOLER CORES ARE COMPARED BY WAY OF NUMERICAL EXAMPLES OBTAINED WITH THE USE OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS WRITTEN FOR THE 3 CASES. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT BARE-TUBE COOLER PERFORMANCE CAN BE CONSIDERABLY ENHANCED BY THE JUDICIOUS USE OF FILL MATERIAL WITHOUT RESORTING TO THE USE OF FINS TO INCREASE THE MASS TRANSFER AREA.
