Compressors for refrigerating plants and ice makers with "water as refrigerant".

Author(s) : PAUL J.

Summary

Centrifugal machines for refrigeration with "water as refrigerant" have been executed in the past as radial compressors. However, these designs are very sensitive and very large. Axial compressors are small, very robust, insensitive to liquid droplets or carry-over and can be built in one unit with many compression stages on one shaft. The development of an axial compressor "family" is coming to an end and the first unit is built in these days. Due to the versatility of the axial design, the refrigerating capacities can range from 150 to 3000 kilowatts per compressor at 0 deg C evaporating temperature (vacuum ice maker). Chiller capacities are almost 50% higher.
