Computational study of a misch metal-nickel(4.15)-iron(0.85) compressor-driven metal hydride refrigerator.

Summary

Thermodynamic calculations indicate that coupled gas-solid metal hydride reactors driven by a mechanical compressor can achieve significant COPs in refrigeration applications. A comprehensive system model of coupled metal hydride reactors with appropriate boundary conditions which simulate a compressor indicates that the COPs attainable from an actual system operating under transient conditions can indeed be significant. Parametric calculations are given which show the unique power-COP operating characteristics of one such system.
