Summary

ALLIED CORPORATION HAS DEVELOPED A COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM FOR MONITORING THE SHELF LIFE OF FOOD AND BEVERAGE PRODUCTS. THE SYSTEM USES A SPECIAL READER AND BAR CODE LABELS CONTAINING AN INDICATING POLYMER THAT GRADUALLY AND IRREVERSIBLY CHANGES COLOR WITH CUMULATIVE TEMPERATURE EXPOSURE. THE RESULTS OF LABORATORY AND FIELD EVALUATIONS OF THE SYSTEM WITH SEVERAL BEVERAGE AND FOOD PRODUCTS ARE REPORTED.
