Type of article: Article

Summary

The article deals with recent developments in controlled atmosphere storage. The building specifications of airtight cells suitable to ultra low oxygen formulae are discussed. The recent techniques of controlling CO2 developments in the cells using automatically controlled absorption based on activated carbon filters are illustrated. The advantages are stressed of the quick removal of oxygen from cell atmosphere using hollow fibers nitrogen concentrators. For controlling the relative humidity in the cells, the Kristall humidifier is described and recommended. For removing ethylene the effects of the Swingtherm catalytic converter are compared with the chemical absorbers based on potassium permanganate. A.P.
