Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR GIVES SOME TIPS ON CONVERTING TO R22 OPERATION. HE SAYS THAT THIS CAN BE DONE IN ALL SMALL-CAPACITY R12 AND R502 INSTALLATIONS, WITH NO LOSS IN COP OR SERVICE LIFE. R22'S INSTABILITY IN THE ATMOSPHERE (WHICH MAKES IT LESS DESTRUCTIVE OF OZONE, HENCE ITS VALUE AS A SUBSTITUTE) CAN BE LIMITED IN THE REFRIGERATING CIRCUIT BY MAKING THE LATTER AIR-AND MOISTURE-FREE. THE AUTHOR EXPLAINS UNDER WHAT CONDITIONS R12 AND R502 COMPRESSORS CAN BE USED FOR R22, AND GIVES SOME TIPS FOR BETTER FUNCTIONING OF R22 INSTALLATIONS. LIMIT VALUES FOR HOT GAS AS A FUNCTION OF EACH TYPE OF COMPRESSOR WERE SET EMPIRICALLY. M. C.
