Summary

PRINCIPLES OF ABSORPTION REFRIGERATION USING HEAT FROM SOLAR COLLECTORS ARE ILLUSTRATED AND DIMENSIONS FOR REFRIGERATION AND SOLAR COLLECTION/HEAT TRANSFER SYSTEMS ARE CALCULATED FOR AN AMMONIA/WATER PLANT FOR COOLING 7,000 L MILK DAILY. ALTHOUGH THE CALCULATED COST OF THE ABSORPTION SYSTEM PER KG MILK IS AT PRESENT ABOUT THE SAME AS THE COST OF TRADITIONAL MECHANICAL COOLING, IT IS CALCULATED THAT THE ABSORPTION SYSTEM COULD CONSIDERABLY DECREASE ANNUAL COSTS IF ELECTRICITY PRICES WERE TO INCREASE BY 15%.
