CORNEAL CRYOCONSERVATION WITH DMSO.

Summary

KERATOPLASTICS REQUIRES BIOLOGICALLY SUFFICIENT DONOR TISSUE AND SO HIGHLIGHTS THE PROBLEM OF CRYOPRESERVATION. SEVERAL CRYOPROTECTORS ARE KNOWN FROM THE LITERATURE, INCLUDING DMSO. THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT CONCENTRATIONS OF DMSO ON THE PRESERVATION OF THE INTEGRITY OF THE ENDOTHELIAL CORNEAL CELL MEMBRANE WAS STUDIED. LONG-TERM CRYOCONSERVATION OF CORNEAS IN 4% DMSO COULD BE A VALUABLE ALTERNATIVE IF FRESH DONOR CORNEAS ARE NOT READILY AVAILABLE. C. B.
