LOSS OF LANGERHANS CELLS IN HUMAN CORNEAS AFTER LOW TEMPERATURE TREATMENT.

Summary

THE IMMUNOCOMPETENT LANGERHANS CELLS ARE A NORMAL COMPONENT OF THE PERIPHERAL EPITHELIUM OF THE HUMAN CORNEA. THEY EXPRESS DIFFERENT IMMUNOLOGICAL AND ENZYME MARKERS THROUGH WHICH THE CELLS COULD BE EASILY IDENTIFIED. UNDER CELL CULTURE CON LANGERHANS CELLS LOSE THEIR MEMBRANE MARKERS, WHICH REFLECTS ON THEIR ANTIGEN PROCESSING AND PRESENTING FUNCTIONS. THE EFFECT OF CRYOPRESERVATIO NEAIIO LA-DR ATGNO LANGERHANS CELLS IN HUMAN CORNEAS WAS INVESTIGATED. THE ANTI-HLA-DR MONOCLONAL ANTIBODY AND THE METHOD OF INDIRECT IMMUNOFLUORESCENCE WERE USED TO IDENTIFY THE CELLS BEFORE AND AFTER FREEZING IN LIQUID NITROGEN. C. B.
