Summary

INVESTIGATIONS OF CRYOBIOLOGY HAVE LED TO EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF PRACTICAL METHODS FOR PRESERVING RED CELLS IN THE FROZEN STATE, AND RETURNING TO THE LIQUID STATE FOR TRANSFUSION. IN HUNGARY A SPECIAL VERSION OF PLATELET CRYOPRESERVATION HAS BEEN DEVELOPED. RECOVERED PLATELETS SURVIVE NORMALLY IN THE CIRCULATION AND THEY ARE USED INTHE SUPPORTIVE CARE OF BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTATION PATIENTS. C. B.
