Cycle performance testing of non-azeotropic mixtures of HFC143a-HCFC124 and HFC32-HCFC124 with enhanced surface heat exchangers.

Summary

In an effort to improve the efficiency of residential heat pumps using alternative refrigerants, these two non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures were tested over a range of heat exchanger capacities, in order to determine their cooling mode performance at 27.8 deg C. Improvements in COP, relative to that for R22, ranged from 9 to 17% for R32-R124 (30-70%) and from 5 to 9% for R143a-R124 (75-25%).
