DESIGN OF RANKINE CYCLES FOR POWER GENERATION FROM EVAPORATING LNG.

Author(s) : MAERTENS J.

Type of article: Article, IJR article

Summary

THE GENERATION OF ELECTRIC POWER USING THE RANKINE CYCLE APPEARS PRACTICAL. FOURTEEN SUCH PLANT HAVE SO FAR BEEN INSTALLED IN JAPAN. THE STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN FOR A PLANT AT ZEEBRUGGE. 6 DIFFERENT CYCLES USING 9 DIFFERENT REFRIGERANTS AND MIXTURES WERE EXAMINED. THE RESULTS SHOW THE IMPORTANCE OF USING A HEAT SOURCE WITH THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE TEMPERATURE. NO ONE REFRIGERANT IS IDEAL FOR ALL CONFIGURATIONS. ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS ALSO AFFECT THE CHOICE OF REFRIGERANT.
