Development and testing of a high-efficiency refrigerator.

Summary

Comparative tests were made on two household refrigerator-freezers, one much more thickly insulated than the other (4.5 cm to 3.25 cm). Savings amounted to 26%. Tests were then carried out on the same refrigerators, with certain parameters modified, including the use of a reciprocating compressor instead of a rotary one, the Lorenz-Meutzner cycle, an improved sealing joint, an energy-saving valve, and a CFC-free zeotropic blend. Overall energy consumption fell from 1.86 to 1.008 kilowatthour/day.
