Summary
Tests have been conducted in the USA to compare field energy consumption with Department of Energy standard test figures with which units are labelled. The units tested were combined household refrigerator-freezers of 3 types: freezer on top, freezer below, and side by side designs. Mean results showed good correlation between tested and labelled values, variations in day to day values being due mainly to ambient changes. New, energy efficient designs proved better by about 60%.
