Development of a CO2 freezer for commercial use.

Author(s) : IMAI S., TSUIHIJI R., ISHII T., et al.

Summary

Some cycle enhancements are necessary for CO2 refrigeration cycle to utilize it for low-temperature applications because basic CO2 refrigeration cycle is not efficient as conventional cycle. The authors have developed an efficient CO2 refrigeration unit with injection cycle, hermetic two-stage rotary compressor and expansion value control algorism for this cycle. System performance was evaluated for the prototype freezer with CO2 refrigeration unit. As a result, the average power consumption of the prototype freezer was reduced by about 18% compared with conventional Sanyo freezer model (SRF-G1283S) using R404A refrigerant under ambient temperature condition of 30°C.
