Summary

This study covers the development and use of R410A in a heat pump using brine-water in the thermal output range of 5 to 16 kW. It was performed on an experimental plant with a hermetic scroll compressor and welded heat-exchange plates. The aim of the study was to optimize various components and to experimentally validate theoretically calculated performance forecasts; experimentally obtained data are provided. The performances obtained are compared with those obtained using other refrigerants and components are described, particularly plate exchangers, with emphasis on the distribution of the refrigerant in the evaporator plates. Sizing recommendations are taken into account in the designing process and suggestions for future development are provided.
