Theoretical and experimental investigation of absorption-compression cycles for large temperature lift.

Author(s) : ALO D., BALEYNAUD J. M.

Summary

Different absorption-compression cycles were simulated with ammonia-water as working pair. The performances and the possibilities for power variations were obtained for temperatures in use in air conditioning and district heating applications. The results were compared with single and double-stage ammonia compression systems. The most advantageous cycle was found, and a prototype with heat power of 15 kilowatts was built, in order to validate theoretical results. The test bench was a double-stage compression system including one pure vapour compression circuit and an hybrid circuit. Both circuits can be operated separately in order to be compared. The system also provides simultaneous use in double-stage configuration to assume a large temperature lift: about 100 K. Special flat-plate heat exchangers were chosen to realize the operations of absorption and desorption.
