Summary

An absorption refrigerating machine generating cold below 0 °C has been developed. This machine is characterized by two innovations. One is a two-stage cycle that consist of two pairs of evaporator and absorber, with the low temperature absorber being cooled by a high temperature evaporator, and another is utilization of mixing solution as a refrigerant in the low-temperature evaporator in order to prevent freezing of the refrigerant. The authors have now shipped a 964 kW machine and achieved a COP of 0.58 when generating -5 °C brine.
