Development of heat pumps utilising R410A.

Summary

The project designed R410A heat pumps for a number of SMEs in Europe. Initially, there was very little practical experience of R410A, although literature suggested that R410A heat pump equipment would produce systems of smaller physical size and higher efficiency than those using R22 and R407C. Achieving higher efficiencies requires analysis of the hydronic system. Thus, this project has looked at all significant aspects of component selection, system sizing and construction and installation from a technical, marketing, safety and legislative perspective. The resulting heat pumps underwent field trials and achieved impressive seasonal performance factors of up to 4.74.
