Dimensioning tube diameter of air cooling coil for carbon dioxide.

Author(s) : AITTOMÄKI E. A.

Summary

To study the influence of the tube diameter in a cooling coil working with carbon dioxide as the refrigerant, calculations were carried out using a specified finned plate and tube coil as an example. The main dimensions and the tube/fin pitching were held constant, only the tube diameter and the number of the parallel tube circuits were varied. The refrigerant side heat transfer was calculated using the Thome and El Hajal-correlation in the two-phase region and the Gnielinski-correlation in the superheating region. The pressure drop was evaluated applying Müller-Steinhagen-Heck and Darcy-Weinbach correlations.
