Summary
AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY IS PERFORMED ON THE DIRECT CONTACT EVAPORATION OF A DISPERSED LIQUID IN A STAGNANT COLUMN OF DISTILLED WATER. EXPERIMENTS ARE CARRIED OUT USING R113 AS DISPERSED PHASE LIQUID AT VARIOUS COLUMN HEIGHTS AND TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCES AND WITH DISTRIBUTOR PLATES HAVING DIFFERENT PITCH TO DIAMETER RATIOS. THE EFFECTS OF THESE OPERATING VARIABLES ON VOLUMETRIC HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS AND HOLDUP RATIOS ARE STUDIED. THE PREDICTED VOLUMETRIC HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS ARE IN REASONABLY GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THE VALUES DETERMINED EXPERIMENTALLY.
