Summary

PENICILLIN G SHOWS A DOSE-DEPENDENT CRYORESISTANCE INCREASING EFFECT. THE PROPORTION OF CONTRACTING RAT HEART FRAGMENTS AFTER FREEZING TO 77 K (-196 DEG C) AND THAWING IS INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY BY PENICILLIN IN THE RANGE OF 0.1 TO 10.0 G/L. THESE SURVIVAL RATES CORRELATE DIRECTLY WITH THE PEROXIDASE ACTIVITY OFPENICILLIN G. THIS IMPLICATES THAT PENICILLIN INFLUENCES LIPID PEROXIDATION PROCESSES.
