Summary
According to data from China’s National Bureau of Statistics, the total building energy consumption increased from 259 million tons standard coal equivalent (tce) to 655 million tce through 1996 to 2008. It accounts for about 23% of the total social energy consumption. So energy conservation is an imminent work. One of the key areas of China’s energy conservation work is Hot Summer and Cold Winter (HSCW) zone. This region’s building energy consumption stays high in recent year for the climate and social reasons. Taking Chongqing as an example, we adopt the commercial energy simulation tool eQuest to analyze the building end use energy consumption in Hot Summer and Cold Winter zone under different energy efficiency standards and get a more accurate forecast about building energy consumption potential. The simulation data revealed HVAC system took a dominant position in total building energy consumption. It ranged from approximately 50% to 70% for the residential building, and 40% to 50% for public building. The energy consumption of residential buildings and public buildings displayed different characters on HVAC system performance by study parameters influence coefficient through a sensitivity analysis. This paper aimed at estimating the influence by different building energy efficiency standards on HVAC system energy consumption.
