Summary

THE EFFECT OF FREEZING-THAWING ON THE HUMAN PLATELET PLASMA MEMBRANE PROTEINS HAS BEEN EXAMINED USING A SPIN LABELING METHOD. AFTER FREEZING-THAWING ANY STRUCTURAL CHANGES WERE NOT OBSERVED BY THIS METHOD. HOWEVER, FROZEN-THAWED PLATELETS EXHIBITED SMALLER MICROVISCOSITY CHANGES OF THEIR PLASMA MEMBRANE AS COMPARED WITH THOSE OBTAINED FOR FRESH CELLS AFTER THROMBIN STIMULATION. IT MAY SUGGEST THAT EARLY RESPONSE OF PLATELET PLASMA MEMBRANE TO STIMULATION IS AFFECTED BY THE FREEZING-THAWING PROCESS.
