Summary

The effects of different packing treatments and duration of refrigerated storage on pea conservation were investigated. Green pods were selected and divided into 3 treatments: 1) conditioned in polystyrene tray without protection; 2) conditioned in polystyrene tray covered with polyvinyl chloride film; and 3) conditioned in sacks of polyethylene. All pods were stored under refrigerated conditions for 15 days. Treatment 3 provided the longest conservation period and smallest weight loss, without altering the quality of products. The storage life of pea pods ranged from 6 to 9 days, and the fibre content increased starting from the 9th day of storage, independent of the type of packing treatments.
