Summary

Budded shoots harvested at replanting time were preconditioned with silver thiosulphate and/or sucrose and stored at 1 deg C for 12 weeks. The effects of preconditioning on flower opening, vase life and sugar contents were investigated. It was concluded that high-grade cut carnation flowers can be obtained in mid-summer by pre-treating budding shoots with silver thiosulphate and cold-storing them at 1 deg C for 12 weeks.
