Efficient operation of filter-driers in refrigerant recycling equipment.
Author(s) : MANZ K. W., MANZ A. J.
Summary
Measuring the mass flow rate for various refrigerants is a difficult task. An "in situ" mass flowmeter was constructed based upon: 1) determining refrigerant type; 2) calculating density based on measuring suction pressure; 3) characterizing the compressor volumetric pumping speed. The refrigerant type was determined based on saturated pressure/temperature curves. Density was found to be linear with absolute pressure. Both superheat and compressor dead volume correction improved the accuracy of the mass flow measurement. The concept of efficient operation of filters-driers was introduced. The "in situ" mass flowmeter improves the efficiency by its accuracy for both phase 1 and phase 2 flow.
