Summary

BASED UPON EXTENSIVE MEASUREMENTS IN A CONTROLLED-ATMOSPHERE COLD STORE FOR FRUIT, RESULTS OF EXAMINATIONS OF TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF ENERGY AND STORAGE ARE GIVEN. BESIDE THE ENERGETIC AND EXERGETIC ANALYSES AND THE COOLING LOAD, THE POWER DEMAND OF PARTS OF THE REFRIGERATING PLANT IS PRESENTED FOR A STORAGE PERIOD OF 273 DAYS (WITH A STOCK OF 610 TONNES OF GOLDEN DELICIOUS APPLES AND 110 TONNES OF WOODEN CONTAINERS). THE POWER DEMAND FOR COOLING 165 KILOWATTHOUR PER TONNE OF APPLES WAS CALCULATED, EXCEPT FOR THE ENERGY DEMAND FOR AIR CONDITIONING. IN THE SECOND PART OF THE PAPER THE LOSSES IN STORAGE, AIR COMPOSITION AND AIR CURRENTS IN THE STORE ARE DISCUSSED IN DETAILBESIDE THE TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION DURING THE VARIOUS STAGES OF STORAGE.
