Energy consumption of hot gas, electrical and brine defrost.

Number: pap. 0007

Author(s) : SKOVRUP M., VESTERGAARD N., KORTSTEE J.

Summary

Based on lab measurements, field measurements and a validated simulation model, the energy consumption of 4 different defrost methods is compared: pressure controlled hot gas defrost, liquid drain controlled hot gas defrost, electrical defrost and brine defrost. The lab and field measurements are used to validate the simulation model, which is then used to identify the losses introduced by the different defrost methods. The energy consumption of the different methods as a function of the defrost time is presented, and the paper is concluding on the most energy efficient method.
