Energy efficiency of HFC134a versus HFC152a.
Author(s) : VINEYARD E. A., SWATKOWSKI L. J. Jr
Summary
In an effort to evaluate the tradeoff between efficiency and safety of two alternative refrigerants, R152a (flammable), and R134a (non-flammable), energy consumption tests were performed by six refrigerator-freezer manufacturers as part of a joint project. The results showed no statistically significant difference between the efficiencies of R134a and R152a. Thus, R134a is a more acceptable substitute for R12 in refrigerator-freezers than R152a assuming safety is the main criterion.
