Author(s) : FINE H. E.

Summary

ENERGY HAS BECOME THE SECOND HIGHEST OPERATING EXPENSE NEXT TO LABOR. BECAUSE REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS USE APPROXIMATELY 55 PERCENT OF A SUPERMARKET'S ELECTRICAL POWER CONSUMPTION, RESEARCH HAS BEEN DIRECTED TO IMPROVEMENTS IN EFFICIENCY. THERE ARE OTHER FACTORS TO CONSIDER, SOME OF WHICH ARE: AVAILABILITY OF WATER SUPPLY, OF REPLACEMENT MACHINES, OF QUALIFIED SERVICE AND FIRST COSTS VS MAINTENANCE COSTS, INSULATION, LIGHTING, AIR CONDITIONING.
