Summary

The paper presents an analysis of the annual energy performance of hotels and motels in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, based primarily on utility bills and some general information provided by the building managers. On average, steam consumption accounts for about 45% of total energy use but for only 24.2% of the total cost. Electricity and natural gas share almost equally in the balance of energy use. However, electricity accounts for 59.6% of total energy cost, while natural gas accounts for only 16.2%.
